USE-DEM, A Denim Upcycling Project

Approximately 6,800 liters of water to grow enough cotton for the production of just one pair of regular blue jeans. When you factor in the dye process as well as the machine wash, almost 12,000 liters of water are used. These jeans will have a very likely chance to be worn for just one season and then either be given away to a charity, second-hand market or worst case scenario, die in a landfill.

Designer Xenia Sidorenko understood the denim industry’s impact and decided to transform into an up-cyclist. She is the founder of UseDem, a denim upcycle project. UseDem is a project about recycling old jeans into new product. It might be a bag, furniture or even objects for interior design. The most important thing is that you can see the rebirth of your favorite jeans. Don’t throw them out — Use Them!
